After the Holidays: A Melancholic Season

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve! Fantastic food, friendly fellowship, all objectively ostentatious and adjectively magnanimous moments of the year. And yet the posthumous period is abjectly oppressive for it’s lack of pinpoints of joy and splendor. Because of this, Seasonal Affective Disorder tends to rear it’s ugly head in the period following the holidays alongside a surge in suicidal ideation. The vacuum of obvious festivities is felt in full, and many people (3% of the general population sans pre-existing mental health disorders and roughly 20% of the population with major depression and/or bipolar disorder) suffer from this variably debilitating issue. As a layman who does suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), the only guidance I can offer is...

Gen Z, Millennial & ADHD: The beginning

When you work in close knit team, you tend to learn traits and details about one another; significant others names, pets, favorite foods, etc. But in the workplace, it is rare to know your colleagues beyond a superficial level. At Joxel, we are not only a team – we are a family. We argue (constructively), we know each other's kids’ events, and we celebrate each other accomplishments. This provides an environment that allows all of us to talk about almost anything. Openly, honestly, and without judgement. A few months ago, the topic of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) came up. We found that two of us struggle with ADHD. After many discussions, we discovered some of our struggles are different,...

“Just a Thought”

People make decisions daily. What to wear, where to eat, which task to start first, what to say, and how to respond, just to name a few. Regardless of where you lay your head at night, the first decision of the day is whether to get out of bed. Why do you decide to get out of bed? What pushes you to do so? As morning arrives and you begin to stir, you lay there with your eyes open, or with your eyes closed. You lay there, partially awake, and then it happens. What happens you ask? Vaccinated? Back to the Office!

Vaccinated? Back to the Office!   With vaccination statistics rising and inoculation allowing most of us to return to a level of pre-COVID normality, we find ourselves facing a new albeit minor crisis; how to reintegrate back into office culture and public life at large. While this may seem like a simple adjustment, the transition will prove more difficult than one might assume, due to a variety of health concerns, both physical and behavioral. COVID-19 has changed our cultural approach in a variety of ways; we find ourselves collectively more aware of viral transmission then ever before and are subsequently wary of close, personal interaction sans masks. This proves problematic due to the reduction in ability to read faces and...

The Benefits of Data Warehouses

The Benefits of Data Warehouses   Data is one of our client’s most important resources and thus, the maintenance of a secure, optimized, scalable, integrated and accessible system should be the highest priority.  Integrating data from various sources available to an organization will assist in performing analysis and reporting, as well as to accelerate business growth and help Leadership analyze past, present and future state. Let us discuss the journey of fictional healthcare organization HealthABC into a Data Warehouse standard. HealthABC offers a variety of Health Care, Behavioral Health, Substance Abuse, Case Management and Homeless Outreach programs to some of city’s most vulnerable patients. These programs use separate systems to track different types of data for disparate purposes; this makes reporting and...

Making Working from Home Work for You

At the Joxel Group, our team is comprised of skilled consultants that collaborate with clients locally and nationwide. Our consultants assist our clients with Electronic Health Record implementations, EHR optimizations, process improvement, custom development and/or specialized IT support.  With the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases in the United States, our company quickly cancelled all travel, closed our office locations and transitioned all employees to telecommuting. Although we made these decisions quickly, they were easy decisions.  Plain and simple, the safety of our clients, employees and communities we serve comes first.   As consultants, we already had the infrastructure for telecommuting in place and since we often leverage technology to conduct meetings, provide training, etc. there has been little to no impact to our clients.  So, at this point you’re likely asking, “How has telecommuting really impacted...
